A walk in the winter woods

Last Saturday we took Sylvia to the cross country ski trails for their annual fun run.

Go go go!

We called it Sylvia’s first race, but this is actually the third race she’s been in. Once on skis in her Chariot, another time in the Chariot on wheels. But this is the first race where she got her own number.

Of course she got tired and had to be carried, but she did cross the finish line on her own two feet.

She had a great time.

“Daddy, pick me up!”

I’m so glad we can do these things all together!

As it turns out, winter is here. Like, for real. None of that annoying freeze-thaw cycle that drives winter-lovers absolutely batty in Newfoundland. True winter! There is frost in the ground, and snow every morning. Not enough yet to ski, but enough to keep the the promise of skiing and snowshoeing in the air.

  1. Lovely Laura – Sylvia seems to be having a wonderful time, only thing missing from the great photos is her “running” commentary. Wish we were there.

  2. Fun! My kids are totally counting down to ski season now that the snow is starting to stick. I’m not so anxious though 🙂

    • Yeah, all that shovelling, hey? Also, skiing was way more fun as a kid, because I didn’t have to deal with all the gear and wet clothes after the fact! Still one of my favourite activities, it’s just not a streamlined as I remember it at 8 or 10 🙂

  3. Aw! Sylvia is so sweet and getting so so big! Are you guys going to be in NL around Christmas this year?

    • Nope – we are going to the mountains!! Exciting. Sad to be missing NL, but looking forward to three days in a cabin and all the snowshoeing and skiing to be had.

  4. I love it! Looks like she had a marvelous time.

    • She did! She found her number today, and said “Oh! It’s my number! For running! Like this!” Then took off running laps around the house by way of demonstration…

  5. Great photos – everyone looks very happy.

  6. Look how happy she is! That is awesome – I love how you’re including her in these races 🙂
